GINGERBREAD HOUSE DISPLAY AND COMPETITION
The 7th grade class will be entering the Seventh Annual PPG Place Gingerbread House Competition. This is a service project that the Seventh Grade students have done for several years to help raise money for Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund. These houses will be on display starting on Light-Up Night, Friday, November 20th.
We are going to begin the work on the houses on Wednesday, October 7th. Each child will have to think of a theme for their house. The website for the competition is www.ppgplace.com, you might want to look at the site for ideas. The attached sheet explains more information about the competition and about how to make the special icing needed. If you don’t think that you can provide the following items by October 7th, please e-mail me.
1 box of graham crackers
(10) plastic knives
1 roll of paper towels
2 batches of icing in a sealed container
Themed items to decorate the house(Dollar Store)
I already have the base and inner structure for each student.
I know that it seems early, but we have to have the houses finished for delivery by Nov. 13th.
Thank you,
Theresa Szmed
BASE:
- I have the base for each student. It is 12” X 12”.
STRUCTURE
- The structure cannot exceed 24” in height.
- They recommend small-medium single house structures.
- I have Styrofoam for the infrastructure to help hold the house together.
- Only the Royal Icing is used because the houses are on display for an extended period of time. (Recipe attached)
- No battery or electric components should be used.
- All items used to decorate the house have to be safe-to-eat materials.
- Some type of yard around the house should be included
